Coureur des Bois

The Coureur des Bois (CdB) is the ultimate classic cross-country skiing adventure. This is not a race, but a real winter challenge: you ski the full distance of the CSM course of 160 km divided into 5 sections per day over two days.

Although the CdB is NOT a race, participants attempting the full distance must complete the first four sections by a specific time each day in order to be allowed to ski the final section and complete the course.

Le Coureur des Bois has three levels of difficulty: Bronze, Silver, and Gold.

Three difficulty levels

For the Gold level, you must once again ski the entire 160 km course in two days carrying a backpack (weighing no less than 5 kilos; containing everything you need for your skiing and your night under the stars ). You are required to spend Saturday evening at the famous Or Claude Bélanger camp.

You must leave the 4th checkpoint each day at the published cut-off time and then ski until the arrival of the 5th and final section each day. Most skiers need more than 10 hours a day to complete their course. This level is significantly more difficult than the Silver level.

Please note: after completing your first CdB Gold, you can accumulate “Gold bars” by completing the CdB Gold again in the following years. Upon obtaining your 4th “Gold bars”, you will receive your unique bib number, which will be yours for all CSMs that will take part in the future! You will forever be a Canadian Ski Marathon legend!

For silver, you must complete the entire 160 km trail over two days while carrying a 5-kilogram backpack with shoulder straps.

You must leave the 4th Checkpoint each day by the published cut-off time and then ski to the end of the 5th section. Most skiers require more than 10 hours each day to finish.

Once you have earned your CdB silver, you can attempt the gold in any future year.

For bronze, you must complete the entire 160 kilometers over two days. There are no requirements for carrying a backpack, nor where you spend the night (a comfortable hotel bed is always a good idea!).

You must leave the 4th Checkpoint each day by the published cut-off time and then ski to the end of the 5th section. Most skiers require more than 10 hours each day to finish.

Once you have earned your CdB bronze, you can attempt the silver level in any future year.
